Lullaby

Came across this adaptation of Hush lil baby dont say a word and found it intriguingingly funny:

Hush little baby don't you squall Momma's gonna buy you a crystal ball
And if you still can't see beyond Momma's gonna buy you a magic wand
And if that wand don't change your fate Momma's gonna teach you to levitate
And if the astral makes you sick Momma's gonna buy you an incense stick
And if that frankincense smells rank Mom'll buy a sensory deprivation tank
And if that tank don't float your bones Momma's gonna buy you some some precious stones
And if those gems don't ease your heart Momma's gonna buy you a natal chart
And if your planets go berserk Momma's gonna buy you some bodywork
And if your aura still needs kneading Momma's gonna buy you a past life reading
And if your destiny stays hid Momma's gonna buy you a pyramid
And if your chakras still feel stressed Momma's gonna take you on a vision quest
And if power animals don't come to charm ya Sorry, kid, it's just your karma

Road manners

Was reading this article in RD about how courteous we Indians are. Are we? Well as a matter of fact we are, not because it is good but for the reason that it is obligatory. Ofcourse we say namaste to all elders even touch their feet but do we give a friendly smile or a hi when our eyes meet a stranger’s. Wait ..dont tell me you smile everytime you see an unknown girl who is beautiful…that doesn’t count. Anyways forget it we may or may not be courteous to each other in normal day to day life but there is one area where we don’t even know the ‘C’ of courtesy and thats road manners.

Do we have any? I doubt that. As the traffic signal countdown reaches five everybody start to honk impatiently. C’mon! nobody wishes to stand there forever …we all are in a hurry and the guy in front of you cant just jump the light while there are still a few seconds left. We overtake from left , right and thank God its not possible else we could have overtaken over and under the vehicles as well. We shout , we yell, we bump , we crash…..why? To save two minutes which aren’t actually saved. I mean on a crowdy road all those who overtook you by almost brushing your shoulder like they would fly next moment , can be found waiting by the time you reach next signal.

I am embarrassed

We were all having fun at Jitu’s in Chicago. It was the usual thing when Indians staying abroad gather they have no inhibitions and they enjoy it to the fullest. So as I said we were having fun and have reached a point where after hours of dancing everybody was in the mood of relaxing and so we started singing popular bollywood numbers one by one. By the time mrs. William’s turn came everybody was in a mellow mood. The effect was part champagne and beer and part dizziness from dancing too much. Mrs. William doesn’t sing , we knew that . We requested her to humm a few lines of any song at all. Embarrassed as she was she went for Jana gana mana and bang!!
This was the moment when I noticed a lot of things and I bet everybody did. No sooner then she started the national anthem we stole glances at each other to check if anybody is gonna stand. I could sense everybody including me was going through a great good deal of inner conflict. Should I stand? No….they would think I am over acting. But what if somebody else stands before I do, then I have to stand up for sure. Boy! It would seem so immature on my part if I decide to stand up just because anybody else did and not because I respect my national anthem. All these thoughts crossed everybody’s mind within 10 seconds. Eventually Bhupi half stoop up and the moment was bhupi was ready to stand up , Jitu noticed and he too started to move and in next five seconds we were all sure that to give due respect to our national anthem by standing up is the right thing to do. Thankfully the whole thing was over in a minute and we all were back to our comfortable position and back to kajra muhabbat vala which reverberated the whole room. I still don’t understand why is it so difficult for me or anybody else to simply respect our national anthem. Infact does it make any difference or does it make me any less patriotic than I already am? Logic says if I cant take pride in something like this I lack respect for my country. The whole incident still haunts me every morning when they broadcast Jana gana mana at ETC channel every morning when I am about to leave for office. Sometime I think I should leave early to save myself from the guilty feeling of not standing while listening to it.

After all i am...

Why is it that when we do a bad deed we try to defend it with the human side of ours? Aw c’mon after all I am just a human being…isn’t that what we say?? Yes sir you are a human being…every ounce of you but why is it that you get to remember tis human side of yours now when you did something wrong? The other day you mights have done something good and people praised you. I dnt remember you saying then that after all you are just a human being….Some human being we are….arent we??
